Schedule and Format

Moab Run the Rocks is a 3 day trail running weekend in Moab Utah. There are two distance options for each day, this event can be done as a whole 3 day event for both distances or a single day option can be selected for the longer courses.

Set on the trails surrounding the beautiful town of Moab this race will offer some epic views and challenges over the course of the 3 days of running. Early season in Moab is spectacular with perfect running temperatures and minimal crowds to take away from your experience in the valley. With many options around Moab, national park hikes, a family vacation weekend can be incorporated into this amazing destination for an unforgettable weekend!

This guide is provide for those considering registering to better understand how the event works, and also for registered runners planning and preparing for the event to guide you through the weekend.

The Stages

On tap for Moab Run the Rocks we have two race distances: The Full Pint and the shorter distance Half Pint. Each is challenging in its own way and each consists of three unique stages over three days – March 7-9, 2025.

The Full Pint
At 53.6 miles (85.6 km) and 4,480 ft (1,356 m) of vertical gain, The Full Pint is for those who want to experience as much of Moab’s legendary singletrack as possible in the short time you’re with us.

The Half Pint
For those that are looking for something a little less intense, we present The Half Pint. It has all the flavor without the volume, and at 33.1 miles (53.1 km) and 2,670 ft (811 m) of vertical gain, this challenging course highlights some of Moab’s finest singletrack.

Race Format

Categories & Awards:

Awards will be presented for Full/Half Pint on Friday and Saturday at the Old Spanish Trail Arena and Sunday (at the finish line) in the following categories:

  • Elite Men/Women - Competitive (you usually finish in the top 15%) - 1st place receives a complimentary entry for the 2025 TransRockies Run in Colorado.

  • Open Men/Women - Under 50 - 1st place receives a complimentary entry for the 2025 edition of the TransRockies Run in Colorado.

  • 50+ Men/Women - 1st place receive a complimentary entry for the 2025 edition of the TransRockies Run in Colorado.

  • 1st to 3rd places in the General Classification (GC) for male and female Full Pint & Half Pint

Important Notes:

  • Please stay on the trails at all times.

  • Fragile living desert crusts (cryptogamic soil) can be destroyed by going off trail.

  • Also, there are rattlesnakes! Follow course markings, and please don’t litter.

Stage 0

THURSDAY, MARCH 6

Packet Pick Up: Hoodoo Hilton (111 N 100 W, Moab) - 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm and Friday morning at race start from 7:30 am - 8:30 am.

Shake Out Run: 4:00 pm from the Hoodoo Hilton Hotel - 3 miles.

Opening Ceremonies: 6:30-7:00 pm, Hoodoo Hilton Hotel - Capacity limited to 325 runners. Sign up HERE to attend. For those who can’t attend or who do not sign up, a recorded version of the Opening Ceremonies will be posted here 1 week prior to the race.

Volunteer Meeting: 7:15 pm

FRIDAY, MARCH 7: Start Times

Race Office opens at 7:30 am - Green TransRockies Run tents/Sprinter

Full Pint: 8:30 am - No Cut off times
Half Pint: 9:00 am

Happy Hour: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm - Old Spanish Trail Arena (3641 S Highway 191)

Start/Finish Location: Lone Mesa Group Campground

Stage 2 – Gemini Bridges

SATURDAY, MARCH 8: Start Times

Race Office opens at 6:00am

Full Pint: 7:00 am - CUT OFF is 4:00 pm for FULL PINT
Half Pint - Dawn Patrol with Lisa: 7:00 am (Hikers ONLY)
Half Pint: 8:00 am

Happy Hour: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm - Old Spanish Trail Arena (3641 S Highway 191)

Start/Finish Location: Gemini Bridges Trailhead

Stage 3 – Bar M

SUNDAY, MARCH 9: Start Times

Packet Pick up opens at 7:30 am

Full Pint: 8:30 am - No Cut off times
Half Pint: 9:00 am

After Party: Woody’s Tavern - 7:30 pm - midnight

Start/Finish Location: Bar M Trails

Final Awards will be held at 12:30 pm in front of the Moab Run the Rocks backdrop at the finish line.

Lost & Found: Don’t forget to check in with Race Office (green TransRockies Run tents) before you go home. We donate all of the lost and found to charity.
